Kobelco’s SK Series Doesn’t Sweat the Small Stuff on Big Jobs

Kobelco has introduced four new Dynamic Acera models, the SK210LC, SK250LC, SK290LC and SK330LC

Because each Dynamic Acera excavator is a leader in its weight class in breakout forces, they have the power to tackle the really tough jobs. Engaging Kobelco’s Power Boost by simply pushing the button atop the right-hand joystick, increases digging forces by 10 percent and gives the operator all the power needed — for as long as its needed.

Every Dynamic Acera excavator has the capacity to lift almost anything — over the front or side — without breaking a sweat. Whenever the operator needs 10 percent more lifting power, he can just flip the Heavy Lift switch to get the lifting capacity, giving these excavators the ability to handle large pipe, trench boxes or the most demanding jobs quickly and easily. And, like Power Boost, there’s no time limit.

To enhance productivity, each Dynamic Acera excavator lets the operator monitor hydraulic pressures, pump flow, oil change intervals and engine rpm from the comfort of the operator’s seat without tools and without hassle. With Kobelco’s design, the operator can easily check the status of critical engine, electrical and hydraulic functions. Up to 68 different service items can be gathered and displayed. Trouble areas can be identified and event times can be tracked via the 100-event fault code memory. And, one can access all this self diagnostic information on the same monitor without any special tools or laptop computers.

While competitive machines confront and confuse operators with up to a dozen complicated, overlapping operating modes, Dynamic Acera excavators reduce this number to three:

Manual Mode — this mode maximizes output for the heavy operations that require full performance. It delivers one of the highest possible levels of production for truck loading, mass excavation or any job requiring continuous maximum speed and power. The machine always starts in this mode, eliminating time consuming and confusing reprogramming to begin work;

Assist Mode — this mode uses the “fuzzy logic” in Kobelco’s NeuralNet Command System to instantly recognize certain tasks and adjust the hydraulic system to help operators achieve maximum efficiency through engine rpm control with minimal effort. It assists the operator without taking control away from him;

Breaker Mode — with this mode, operators can quickly adjust pump flow rates for different attachments, like breakers and nibbler/breakers, right from the cab. When in the Breaker Mode, and the operator engages the pedal to operate the breaker, pump flow will be at the adjusted flow rate. However, when the pedal is not engaged and other functions are used, the pump flow will return to normal.

All modes benefit from Kobelco’s advanced Auto-Acceleration System, which smoothly and steadily eases the engine from 1,000 rpm to full speed in direct, proportional response to the movement of the control levers. And, regardless of the mode, the operator has Swing Priority. This system instantly and automatically delivers full swing power during combined swing and arm operations, without engaging special buttons or switches.

The Add-On Attachment Valve, an expandable main control valve, increases the Dynamic Acera’s functionality. One additional valve, the breaker valve, is standard and two additional optional valves can be easily attached. So, in about an hour the operator’s ready to add attachments without disassembly of the main control valve.

Perhaps the most intelligent innovation Kobelco designed into its line of Dynamic Acera excavators is its NeuralNet Command System. By employing “fuzzy logic” software, the NeuralNet works much like the technology that makes advanced military aircraft ultra-responsive to a pilot’s every wish. It analyzes a simple hand movement and translates it into a series of coordinated control messages. This system acts like an electronic extension of the operator’s body, making every command automatic, intuitive and extremely efficient. And making even the fastest, most powerful movements feel silky smooth.

This enhanced level of overall performance is due to the rock-solid, reliable Mitsubishi engines at the heart of the new Dynamic Acera excavators. These power plants are carefully engineered for exceptional performance over a long working life. They are super efficient, ensuring maximum fuel economy and compliance with worldwide emissions requirements. To ensure the highest uptime for these powerful engines, each Kobelco dealer will offer certified Mitsubishi support, enabling the operator to enjoy one-stop repair and maintenance convenience so he can keep his Kobelco excavators on the job even longer.

By expanding its overall space by 18 percent over previous models, Kobelco has built the industry’s largest operator cabs. Now operators not only have plenty of elbowroom, but can be more productive, since controls are ergonomically positioned for maximum convenience. Controls tilt up to make entrance and exit easy. Pilot lever height is adjustable for various operator leg lengths. The total glass surface has been increased by 36 percent affording virtually unrestricted visibility all around the excavator. Operators will also benefit from climate control air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo radio, standard in each new Dynamic Acera.
