Rick Greeno, owner of Greeno Excavating in Kenosha, Wis., placed 43rd in the Case Rodeo finals at ConExpo in Las Vegas on March 11. To qualify for the event, Greeno had won Miller-Bradford & Risberg’s local competition in Sussex, Wis.
These events included a series of skill tests operating backhoes. The national contest pitted 77 winners from local contests across the United States against each other. The total number of original contestants was more than 4,200.
“Everyone enjoys watching seasoned equipment operators show off their skills at these events,” said Mike Soley, Jr., president and CEO of Miller-Bradford & Risberg.
“We are proud that one of our own from Wisconsin placed so well in the national contest.
Greeno has more than thirty years of experience operating heavy equipment, and he is a pleasure to watch maneuver a backhoe.”
Contestants in the rodeo test their skill, speed and precision operating a Case 580 Super M Series 2 Loader/Backhoe over three obstacle courses. Each course is outlined with PVC piping, on top of which rests soccer balls. The operators must lift and navigate a plastic tub through the obstacles without knocking down the soccer balls. Contestants are judged on a combination of speed and accuracy; there is a penalty of 30 seconds for each soccer ball knocked off a pipe. The 77 competitions hosted by Case dealers across the nation attracted a total of 19,400 people and raised over $138,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
Greeno and his son, Brian, originally entered the competition at the suggestion of Carl Scherbarth, his equipment salesman at Miller-Bradford & Risberg. A customer for over twenty years, Greeno has purchased his equipment from the local Case distributor. “Whenever we have an equipment problem, MBR does everything they can to keep us up and running,” noted Greeno. “They treat everyone like family.”
Greeno founded his excavating company in 1984. He had been working with his father in the excavation business since he was sixteen and decided to start his own business at the age of 23. The company specializes in residential projects. Greeno is particularly proud of the luxury homes they have helped Stonehedge Builders develop.
Miller-Bradford & Risberg has expanded to include eight branch locations throughout Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois. Manufacturers represented by Miller-Bradford & Risberg include: Case, Kobelco, Bomag, Terex, Terex Fuchs, Sandvik, Volvo’s Blaw-Knox and more.
