Mack Trucks has announced it would continue its sponsorship of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Share the Road highway safety program in 2017. This marks the 15th year that Mack has supported the educational outreach initiative.

Mack made the announcement during the ATA Management Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Share the Road drivers, who are traveling the country teaching others how to safely drive around trucks – something which many people might not think about,” said Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales for Mack Trucks North America. “Mack Trucks is committed to doing our part to help improve highway safety through our products, services and the Share the Road program as drivers deliver critical messages to thousands of people across the country every year.”

Share the Road professional drivers travel across the country in a Mack Pinnacle 70-inch high-rise sleeper model, demonstrating how to drive safely alongside heavy trucks to students, policy makers, the media and other groups. All of the drivers have exemplary safety records, and many have logged a million or more miles without an accident.

Share the Road drivers teach motorists about potential blind spots, truck stopping distances and other safety considerations to help encourage safe travel for everyone on the road.

The Mack Pinnacle model used for the Share the Road program features a Mack MP®8 505C engine with 505 horsepower and 1,760 lb.-ft. of torque, along with the Mack mDRIVE® automated manual transmission, which enables drivers to focus completely on the road ahead rather than shifting gears. The Pinnacle model also includes Mack Roll Stability Advantage by Bendix and Bendix Wingman Advanced adaptive cruise control, which helps drivers avoid potential collisions by integrating throttle, engine brake and foundation brakes into the cruise control function.
