Mack Trucks is in the process of adding 400 additional workers to its assembly plant in Lower Macungie Township, Pa. The facility already has about 2,000 workers, Transport Topics reported.

According to spokesman Christopher Heffner, Mack started the hiring process in October for jobs set to start Jan. 2. So far, the company has made offers to 345 potential employees.

"We're increasing employment to meet higher market demand," Heffner said. "Part of that includes strong interest in the new Mack Anthem model."

Earlier this fall, Heffner indicated that the company was looking to bulk up its workforce after the Volvo Group, Mack's parent company, reported its Q3 earnings, Transport Topics reported. The employment surge is continuing a year-long trend: Just this past January, the facility employed 1,480 workers.

Adding workers is just one change among many for this Mack facility. Recently, the company finished up a $3 million renovation of its customer care center and is in the process of using $84 million to update its space.
