For many, Black Friday marks the kickoff to the holiday season, followed closely by Cyber Monday. But in recent years, another day has gained ground in capturing the spirit of the season: Giving Tuesday.
As its name implies, Giving Tuesday is all about supporting those in need. While there are countless charities and causes that you can contribute to, here is a list of 10 that have industry-specific goals in mind:
1. American Traffic Safety Services Association — This nonprofit is committed to eliminating injuries and fatalities in work zones through spreading awareness with programs, public service announcements and more. The foundation also offers scholarships to children whose parents or loved ones have been seriously injured or killed while performing road work. The ARTBA Transportation Development Foundation — Founded in 1985, this organization provides support for educational scholarships, awards programs, professional development training, safety training, a national transportation exhibition and a facility that works to improve safety in road construction zones. 3. The Caterpillar Foundation— Founded by one of the biggest names in construction equipment, the Caterpillar Foundation is committed to improving communities worldwide. 4. Construction Angels —This Florida-based nonprofit steps in to provide financial assistance to the families of construction workers who have lost their lives on a job site. "Construction Angels wants to make an everlasting impression and impact within the industry, one family at a time," says the organization's vision, with the goal "to assist the family at the beginning of their grieving process with hopes to provide them with a sense of comfort, both financially and emotionally." 5. Construction Charities of North America — When disaster strikes, Construction Charities of North America is ready to help rebuild communities. The organization says it is committed to using only skilled union workers to complete projects "with care, safety, professionalism, and in a timely manner." 6. Construction for Change — By partnering with nonprofits and volunteers, and using their expertise, Construction for Change helps communities around the world. The organization provides construction management services to areas that are in need of facilities to promote "education, healthcare and economic empowerment." 7. Habitat for Humanity — Habitat has been addressing poor housing conditions in the U.S. and around the world for over 40 years. 10. Wounded Warrior Project — As its name suggests, this organization works to honor and empower wounded warriors.
