The Manitowoc Crane Group (MCG) has begun a multimillion-dollar expansion and renovation project on its manufacturing facility in Shady Grove, Pa.
The Shady Grove manufacturing plant is comprised of 11 manufacturing buildings located on a 305-acre campus. In August 2007, construction began on additions to two of the buildings.
A 9,000 sq. ft. (836 sq m) addition will house a new wash, paint and shipping area in the Manitowoc Model 999 crawler assembly building. This portion of the project is scheduled for completion in January 2008.
The boom fabrication facility expansion also will be completed in January 2008. This 12,000 sq. ft. (1,115 sq m) expansion will add the space necessary to incorporate National Crane boom assembly. The reallocation of resources will reduce material handling, align assembly functions with the appropriate assembly line station and relocate National Crane boom assembly to streamline manufacturing and assembly process.
Larry Weyers, executive vice president of the Americas region said this expansion project is an example of how Manitowoc Crane Group is responding to customer needs.
“These additions and renovations to the Shady Grove facility will help streamline our manufacturing process and improve our manufacturing efficiency,” said Weyers.
“This will go a long way toward increasing manufacturing capacity in the United States and help MCG respond more quickly to customer requests and service needs.”
Finally, Manitowoc Crane Group is renovating an existing 36,000 sq. ft. (3,344 sq m) of office space for Manitowoc Crane CARE. The new area, which also will include Manitowoc Crane CARE’s training facility, will provide additional space for expanded operation. The renovation is expected to be completed in February 2008.
