MDT Proposes Reconstruct Project for Interstate 90 Near Idaho Border

Tue November 20, 2018 - West Edition #24
Montana Department of Transportation

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to reconstruct about 5.7 miles of Interstate Highway 90 west of the Taft Interchange in Mineral County.

The project begins at the top of Lookout Pass at reference post 0.0 and extends east for 5.7 miles, ending at the Taft Interchange at reference post 5.7.

Proposed work includes reconstructing the existing asphalt surfacing to a concrete driving surface. The purpose of the project is to remove the asphalt surface that is deteriorating due to the harsh weather environment in this area and replace with a more durable concrete surface.

Construction is tentatively planned for 2023 depending on completion of design and availability of funds. New right-of-way and relocation of utilities may be required. MDT staff will contact all potentially affected landowners prior to performing survey work on their land. Staff will again contact landowners prior to construction regarding property acquisition and temporary construction permits if needed.

For more information, contact Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at 406/523-5802 or Project Design Engineer Nathaniel Walters at 406/523-5833. Members of the public may submit written comments to the Montana Department of Transportation Missoula office at P.O. Box 7039, Missoula, Mont. 59807-7039, or online at:
