MDT to Hold Open House to Discuss Construction Project

Wed February 13, 2019 - West Edition #4
Montana Department of Transportation

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is hosting an open house public meeting on a study to review roadway reconstruction alternatives for Secondary Highway 292 (Whitefish Stage Road) between West Reserve Drive and Montana Highway 40 (MT-40).

The open house will be held in Kalispell on Feb. 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 139 of the Arts & Technology Building at the Flathead Community College (777 Grandview Drive). The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a brief presentation. After the presentation, the public is invited to visit project displays and meet with project team members to ask questions and provide comments on the project.

The purpose of the study is to determine the scope and limits of a future reconstruction project, which will provide an improved roadway that enhances mobility, safety, long-term viability and future capacity for a high-growth area of the county.

The project study limits begin at reference post 0.5 north of the intersection with West Reserve Drive and extends north to reference post 9.3 at the intersection with MT-40. The proposed project will analyze improvements including widening the existing roadway; flattening side slopes; and improving horizontal and vertical alignments. Safety projects have recently been completed along this road and those sections will not be reconstructed. An estimated construction date will be determined upon completion of the study.

For more information, please contact Missoula District Administrator Ed Toavs at 406/523-5802 or Project Design Engineer Chuck Nemfakos at 406/444-9323.
