Design & Construction Expo will be held at the all-new Rock Financial Showplace, in Novi, MI, Feb. 8 and 9.
The 22nd edition of this event for industry professionals is co-sponsored by the Construction Association of Michigan (CAM), and the Metro Detroit chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
It’s a new venue for a new show as Design & Construction Expo has been greatly enhanced.
“Design & Construction Expo is now so much more than an equipment show,” said Gregg Montowski, director of marketing for CAM. “It is a celebration of the construction industry that brings together all the members of the construction team.”
This year’s show will have more than 100,000 sq. ft. of display space and feature more than 200 exhibitors.
The event gets under way at 8 a.m. with the 2nd annual VIP Reception and Show Preview and the official opening ceremony will take place at 11:00 a.m.
Many exhibitors at Design & Construction Expo 2006 plan to launch new construction-related equipment, tools and services.
“Contractors, designers, and construction buyers will be able to actually see, test and learn about the newest equipment, products and services available,” said Ron Riegel, CAM manager of expositions.
“Architectural Alley will again be an exciting part of the show. This special section displays products and information on the latest offerings for architects, engineers, specification writers and designers.”
Hansen Marketing Services will again donate ornate columns, along with Atlas Block donating hardscape products to mark the entrances of Architectural Alley.
Atlas Block also will provide products to enhance the entrance of Design & Construction Expo.
Architectural Alley also will be the location for the second annual CAM Magazine Special Issue Project Awards.
Each architect and general contractor of this year’s 12 featured projects will be receiving a commemorative plaque. CAM president Kevin Koehler and Frank Nutt Jr., chairman of the CAM board of directors will present the awards.
CAMTEC, the educational division of the Construction Association of Michigan, together with the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), is expanding its Expo Education schedule to 27 different courses in response to a complete sellout of last year’s programs.
The 2006 program schedule will include programs for architects, contractors, owners and suppliers.
The Detroit chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute will hold several sessions on both days of the show to explain the CSI MasterFormat 2004.

The Construction Association of Michigan, the Construction Specifications Institute and WRIF Radio have been searching Metro Detroit job sites looking for Michigan’s “Best” overall construction worker to compete in the Michigan CAT Tool Box Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the new Rock Financial Showplace.
The competition will consist of several construction skill contests such as: “Nuts & Bolts,” “The Screw Off,” “Push-up Contest” and many others.
“CAM, CSI, WRIF and Michigan CAT have partnered for this event to recognize the hard workers of the Michigan construction industry,” said Montowski,
The Construction Association of Michigan will hold its Annual Meeting at the Rock Financial Showplace beginning at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 8, the opening day of Design & Construction Expo.
The Construction Specifications Institute will hold a dinner reception beginning at 6:00 p.m. with guest speaker Allyn Kilsheimer addressing the topic: Rebuilding the Pentagon After 9/11.
Kilsheimer led the Phoenix Team, the design and construction group assembled to rebuild the Pentagon after the attack of 9/11. The team completed the job in 11 months, ahead of schedule and under budget. To register for this dinner program, call 248/433-5555.

Attendees pre-registering before Jan. 15 will have their name badges mailed, and those pre-registering after Jan. 15 can pick up their badges at the door of Design & Construction Expo.
