Construction Equipment Guide

Featuring 26-in. (66 cm) main frame tubing, the Terex SF3500C concrete slipform paver from Terex Roadbuilding delivers structural rigidity at extended paving widths. The paver’s Series 6 paving kit boasts a proprietary wedge and pin locking system and unique vibration manifold mounting, enabling contractors to change paving widths in a matter of hours, not days, to dramatically improve paving efficiency, according to the manufacturer.

Single-point main-frame telescoping from one side of the tractor offers half the potential flex points of other pavers and prevents machine deflection. Hydraulically controlled main frame extenders allow the telescoping extension to be quickly extended and retracted to reduce width change time and optimize paving efficiency. Offering up to an 8-ft. (2.4-m) extension, the two-track SF3502C slipform paver offers standard paving widths ranging from 12 to 26 ft. (3.7 to 7.9 m) and a maximum 34-ft. (10.4-m) width, making it the paver choice for highway, industrial and airport concrete construction.

With its “Strongbox” design, the Terex Series 6 paving kit is 55 percent stronger than traditional Terex slipform paving kits. It features a finishing zone of 60 in. (152.4 cm) to improve surface smoothness. A two-phase manufacturing process is used for precision milling of kit segment sides and bottoms, assuring a tight fit between segments without spacers and enhancing extrusion surface smoothness to improve finish quality.

Vibrator manifolds mount directly to the paving kit with quick disconnects, reducing vibrator hose length and saving contractors money. With only eight hose connections between the kit and tractor at a 24-ft. (7.3-m) paving width, this low density hydraulic plumbing design helps to reduce the time it takes to make a width change, according to the manufacturer.

Several design features improve operator visibility and performance with the SF3502C slipform paver. Its low-rise engine compartment enhances the operator’s field of vision to the slab behind the paver. See-through walkway grates give the operator a better view of the head of material in front of the paving pan. A “no-clutter” deck design allows the operator to move freely along the tractor’s telescoping walkways.

For optimum floatation, traction and stability, the SF3502C offers a standard 12-ft. (3.7-m) long by 16-in. (40.6 cm) wide triple-grouser street shoes. A dual-range propel system offers a variable hydrostatic paving speed range up to 35 ft. (10.7 m) per minute and a travel range up to 83 ft. (25.3 m) per minute.

The SF3502C paver is powered by a 350-hp (261-kW), Tier III and Stage IIIA diesel engine. The engine compartment is sound-insulated to reduce noise levels and improve operator comfort. The hydraulically actuated engine cowling increases ease of access to components for servicing.
