The inaugural Midwest Construction Expo will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center on Thursday and Friday, March 18 and 19, 2010. Show hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, and admission is free.

More than 100 exhibits are planned, featuring the latest makes and models of construction equipment, as well as trucks, trailers, attachments, contractor supplies and all the ancillary products and services, such as finance, bonding, insurance, and more.

Several of the area’s top equipment dealers have already committed to the show, including Ziegler Cat, Lano Equipment, St. Joseph Equipment, Road Machinery & Supplies, RDO and Trenchers Plus.

In addition to the exhibits the show will be an outstanding educational opportunity for attendees. Many of the industry’s leading associations are working closely with CEG Productions, the show’s producers, to develop programs that will help contractors do their jobs better, faster, safer and more efficiently.

Among the participating associations will be the Minneapolis Utility Contractors Association, the Minnesota chapters of the Land Improvement Contractors of America, the Minnesota Construction Association, the Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Association of General Contractors. Also participating is the commercial vehicle enforcement division of the Minnesota State Patrol.

According to Bob Buckley, president of CEG Productions, the purpose of the show is to provide a venue for contractors, landscapers, builders and public works officials to gather in a setting where they can learn about new products and innovations in the industry, network with their colleagues, and attend seminars that will prepare them to compete successfully in today’s marketplace.

“The tremendous support we’re getting from all segments of the industry will allow us to give contractors a day jam-packed with activities and information,” he said.

CEG Productions is the trade show division of Construction Equipment Guide, a national newspaper, with four regional editions, which has been serving the industry for more than 50 years.

Go Green

CEG Productions’s 4th Annual Chicago Construction Expo in February and new Midwest Construction Expo in March will implement the Virtual Totebag.

Created by BD Metrics Inc., the Virtual Totebag replaces physical totebags with attendees’ own mobile devices. Now, as an eco-friendly alternative to pre-printed paper materials, attendees can text or email a unique mobile code to request and store exhibitor materials online.

Tradeshows generate enormous amounts of trash each day.

“With the Virtual Totebag, we want to make it easy for our participants to help reduce the amount of paper waste produced at our event,” said Buckley. “Not only does the Virtual Totebag make it easy to be green, it makes it easy for attendees to store and share information collected at the event, without having to tote around pounds of paper. Hit, send and it’s saved; it’s that simple.”

Exhibitors at the event will receive a personalized account, enabling them to distribute and track requests for their information online, reducing the cost of printing, shipping and distributing paper materials. By enabling attendees to store and share information online, exhibitors can increase their reach, increase their leads and increase their insight into attendees’ interests — without increasing their budgets.

Both expos will showcase the latest in equipment and technologies; everything from heavy and light machinery, trucks and trailers, to laser systems, safety equipment, computer hardware and software and everything in between.

In addition to the exhibits, the show will focus on networking and educational opportunities. Several seminars, training sessions, recertification programs and round table presentations are in the works and are another area where the Virtual Totebag will be implemented as a way of reducing the need for printed materials.

CEG Productions is the tradeshow division of Construction Equipment Guide, the nation’s leading newspaper for the construction industry, with four regional editions providing national coverage.
