Construction Equipment Guide

Miller-Bradford & Risberg, a Case distributor, is hosting a National Utility Contractors Association competent person training session at the company’s De Pere, Wis., training facility, 3203 French Road, on March 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The class will cover OSHA Subpart P — excavation standards, definitions, general requirements, protective system requirements, soil classification, and handling an OSHA inspection. The cost is $100 per person, and space is limited to 45 participants.

Lunch will be provided.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires a competent person to oversee all excavation and trenching job sites. A competent person is defined by OSHA as, “one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.”

The competent person must have specific training and knowledge regarding soil analysis, protective systems, and the requirements of OSHA Subpart P. Gary Stephens, Efficiency Inc. representative, will conduct the class.

Miller-Bradford & Risberg has been selling and servicing heavy machinery since 1944. The company has expanded to include eight branch locations throughout Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois. Manufacturers represented by Miller-Bradford & Risberg include: Case, Kobelco, Bomag, Terex, Terex Fuchs, Sandvik, Volvo’s Blaw-Knox, and other top brands.
