On August 21, Low Country Machinery, Pooler, Ga., delivered six new 14-ton (12.7 t) 426Z wheel loaders to its long-standing customer, Coastal Concrete, a deal worth $1 million. The six new machines update Coastal Concrete’s fleet and marks its 18th JCB machine purchase.

The relationship between the two companies goes back to 2001 when Coastal Concrete purchased its first JCB, a used 426 wheel loader. Since that initial purchase they have turned to Low Country Machinery and JCB for all their wheel loader needs. Tim Coleman, CEO of Coastal Concrete said, “I choose to do business with Low Country Machinery because they have always provided us with consistent service, responsiveness and reliability.”

To celebrate the million-dollar deal, the two companies invited employees to a BBQ highlighting this bright spot in a down economy. “This deal represents a beacon of hope for the struggling economy. It has been a tough year for our industry and for this community; this deal shows that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Rick Piper, president and co-owner of Low Country Machinery.

Coleman shared Piper’s hopeful outlook, saying, “The new wheel loaders give new life to my business and better equip us to deal with the increase in jobs we are anticipating this fall.”

With 17 locations throughout Georgia and South Carolina, Coastal Concrete has been able to maintain a full schedule of jobs, despite the downturn in the economy. All 17 of its locations rely on the team at Low Country Machinery to handle the maintenance on the entire fleet of machines. “Low Country Machinery has always provided us with the highest level of customer support. They keep our machines running so we can keep our business going,” said Coleman. The wheel loaders are an integral part of Coastal Concrete’s business. They are used to load the plant to keep production moving. The lift capacity and fast cycle times of the JCB loaders enable them to move gravel in less time, increasing overall productivity.

For Coleman, the decision to buy goes far beyond the business deal. “Our partnership with Low Country Machinery and JCB runs much deeper than this purchase today. We share the same commitment to this community and to giving back to it,” said Coleman. Coastal Concrete, Low Country Machinery and JCB teamed up earlier this year to raise more than $30,000 for the Effingham County YMCA, an event that Coleman chaired. All three companies believe in good corporate citizenship and the importance of supporting the local economy. Rick Piper echoes Coleman’s belief and adds, “This deal is a good example of how local companies are working together to buck the current economic trend.”
