As emission regulations get stricter, staying ahead of the latest requirements becomes a challenge in itself for busy equipment owners.

“It can especially become a problem when you’re involved in a bid process and you have to make sure you are meeting the required specs,” explained Steve Earle, manager of the New York Parts and Service Sales Representatives at Milton CAT, who said that its customers rely on Milton CAT to keep them abreast of news and trends that affect the industry. An example of that commitment was the recent workshop at the Syracuse location.

Focusing on the latest off-highway emission regulations, the workshop was designed specifically for equipment owners, superintendents and master mechanics, exactly the people who need to learn how to navigate the demanding new regulations.

“We wanted to give our workshop attendees a solid handle of the current bid spec language, and explore with them some solutions they can put to work right away,” said Earle.

Forty-four customers from 28 different companies attended the workshop.

“We had companies as large as Waste Management, and as small as firms with several machines,” said Earle, who also described the range of fields represented as wide — from quarry operations to excavation and site development firms.

A presentation by Milton CAT Emissions Business Manager Wayne Clark was followed by a question and answer session that covered specific challenges being experienced by customers.

In addition to the regulations update, visitors had the opportunity to take a closer look at a CAT Certified Powertrain Rebuild or “CPT”. Earle stated that more and more equipment owners are taking advantage of the Milton CAT CPT, considering it a cost effective “second life” option for their valuable equipment.

“We actually had two examples of CPTs, side by side,” said Earle, “one was a completed 980G wheel loader, the other was a 836G compactor in mid-process.”

Earle stated that in addition to complete CAT Certified Rebuilds and CAT Certified Powertrain Rebuilds, Milton CAT also performs emissions upgrade programs.

“The upgrades allow Milton CAT customers to achieve immediate emissions reductions and also minimize downtime, increase performance and extend the life of their equipment.”

Summarizing the event, Earle noted that there was a lot of interaction among the participants, during the presentation, through dinner and while they were touring the Milton CAT operation, and that interest was very high.

“Even after the event was over, over a dozen visitors actually stayed behind to ask Wayne more questions about emissions regulations. It’s great to see that.”
