The Maryland-DC chapter of National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) recently honored several projects built by The Clark Construction Group Inc.
American Red Cross Headquarters in Washington, D.C. received an award of merit for Best Renovation for combining historic adaptive reuse and new construction in a 750,000-sq.-ft. building.
Designed by Shalom Baranes Associates of Washington, D.C., an existing, historically significant 85,000-sq.-ft. Red Cross Chapter House (built by Clark in the 1950s) is incorporated into the project, relocated from the middle of the site to the front of the property. Behind it is an efficient new 10-story office tower. Bridging the old with the new, this historic structure connects to the addition by a skylit structure.
Discovery Communications Headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, was recognized with the award of excellence for the Best Urban Build-to-Suit.
The new headquarters is designed to showcase Discovery’s cutting-edge work culture and a product philosophy committed to exploration, lifelong learning and community involvement.
Occupying a vacant 4.5-acre site in Silver Spring, the project is a significant element in the redevelopment of one of Washington D.C.’s important suburban neighborhoods.
Designed by SmithGroup of Washington, D.C., the headquarters is a major gateway for downtown Silver Spring, as well as a center for community life.
Providing strategic facilities planning and interior design, Gensler of Washington, D.C., served as the interior architect for the project. Maintaining a productive work environment for Discovery’s 1,500 employees, aligning the resources of people, place and technology is a paramount objective of the building.
The following projects, where Clark Construction served as the general contractor, also were recognized:
