MountainStar Healthcare and St. Mark's Hospital are constructing Utah's newest freestanding emergency room in West Valley City. After an evaluation of unmet needs in several communities that St. Mark's serves, West Valley City emerged as the area that would most benefit from having prompt ER care readily available in the neighborhood. Located at 5668 W. Brud Drive, St. Mark's West Valley ER is expected to open its doors in early 2019.

“We are committed to better meeting healthcare needs throughout Utah by increasing access to quality care and ensuring an exceptional patient experience,” said Greg R. Angle, president of MountainStar Healthcare. “St. Mark's West Valley ER is another example of strategic, responsible growth that meets, yet does not exceed, its community's current needs.”

MountainStar Healthcare and its parent company, HCA Healthcare, are funding the development of the St. Mark's West Valley ER. In addition to increasing tax revenues, this new medical facility will bring 40 to 45 new jobs to the city. The freestanding ER was designed by Devenney Group Architects and will be built by Ascent Construction, which is based in Farmington, Utah.

Board-certified physicians from St. Mark's Hospital will staff the freestanding ER 24/7. They will join experienced nurses in utilizing an advanced triage process to facilitate prompt patient care and shorter wait times. In the fully equipped facility, this medical team will have the ability to quickly diagnose and treat life-threatening conditions like heart attacks and strokes, as well as other medical emergencies.

“Our newest freestanding ERs will soon provide high-quality emergency care when needed in West Valley City, while significantly reducing wait times for patients and their families,” said Mark Robinson, CEO of St. Mark's Hospital. “The fact that it is conveniently located close to where people live and work will better serve West Valley City and surrounding neighborhoods.”

The 10,500 sq. ft. West Valley ER features 10 treatment rooms, with one designated for trauma care and another set apart for behavioral health needs. Patients also will benefit from the immediate availability of onsite diagnostics and lab services as well as imaging services including computerized tomography (CT scan), ultrasound and X‐ray.

West Valley ER is located just west of the city's Fire Station 74. The ER's medical staff will work closely with local first responders to provide the highest level of emergency care in the community. This collaboration also will help the responders to function even more efficiently and return to the field faster.

For the most part, patients will return home after being treated at the freestanding ER. Those who need additional care will benefit from the streamlined transfer process established by MountainStar. A knowledgeable support team will efficiently coordinate their ongoing care and arrange for an ambulance to transport them to St. Mark's Hospital or another hospital of their choice.
