New Jersey American Water Investing $2M in Millburn

Thu June 21, 2018 - Northeast Edition #13
New Jersey American Water

New Jersey American Water will begin replacing approximately 6,300 ft. of aging water main in its Millburn service area. The company is replacing main that was installed in the 1920s and 1930s with new ductile iron main along Old Short Hills Road, from Parsonage Hill Road to Silver Spring Road. The project also includes replacing twelve fire hydrants and 53 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route.

This $2 million investment will continue to improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water's multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

New Jersey American Water's local qualified contractor, Montana Construction, began work the week of June 4 and the work is expected to be completed by the end of August. Work on Parsonage Hill Road and related detours will be suspended during this project. Work hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed by Essex County in the fall as part of their annual paving program. All final restorations of curbs, sidewalk and landscaping will be completed in September or within 30 days after final project completion.

For the public's and workers' safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
