Peter MacKenna, president and CEO of S&B Construction, was named as CEO of S&B USA, replacing Sharon Novak who is stepping down after serving in this role for the past 5 years. Lucas Lahitou, formerly head of origination & structuring, was promoted to CEO of S&B USA Concessions, reporting to MacKenna.
The appointments strengthen an already substantial and robust team who have positioned S&B USA as one of the premier creators of safe and innovative infrastructure solutions in the United States, the company said.
In the five years since establishing the U.S. headquarters in Pittsburgh, S&B USA has grown substantially by winning $3.8B of Private-Public-Partnership projects (P3s) and several other large construction projects, led by Novak, and MacKenna. Most recently awarded VPRA's Long Bridge South package in a JV with two other major construction companies, S&B USA's total backlog now stands at an all-time record.
MacKenna and the S&B USA Leadership Team will continue pursuing strong sales growth and project execution.
"Our leadership team has been tasked with substantial, yet responsible growth," said Mackenna. "With an exceptional team, we have achieved great things over the past few years. We will continue on the path to be the developer and constructor of choice for significant infrastructure projects that shape communities and provide family-sustaining jobs."
Mackenna brings more than 40 years of construction experience from his previous chairman, CEO and presidential roles including 20 years in multiple operating units of Skanska USA and as CEO of Sterling Infrastructure. For almost two and a half years, he has led S&B USA Construction, elevating the company's talent pool across both field operations and supporting staff to create a world-class organization that has achieved financial success while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
In addition, Lahitou's appointment underscores the importance of P3 projects to the future of the company. Lahitou has more than 15 years of infrastructure development and investment experience and successfully led the development, structuring and execution of major transportation P3 projects in the US and the Americas, with a total combined value in excess of $8 billion.
Lahitou joined the company in 2017 and was instrumental in securing S&B USA's two most recent P3 wins, the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Channel (2021) and the PennDOT Major Bridges Program (2022). Prior to joining S&B USA, he led the development of high-profile highway infrastructure projects, including managed lanes, while working for Cintra US and Vinci Concessions USA.
"I look forward to collaborating with our construction business, joint venture and finance partners, and clients to ensure the success of our Public-Private Partnership (P3) ventures," said Lahitou. "Peter and I have and will continue to work very closely together to deliver innovative infrastructure and financial solutions that are tailored to the client's needs working to better the country's infrastructure and leave a lasting imprint for generations to come."
