PIRTEK, a fluid transfer solutions company, has a new owner operating its PIRTEK Palo Verde location in Tucson. Paula Meyer acquired the franchise in May.

Meyer's story is of the “silver lining” variety. After working for a prominent credit card company for 18 years, she lost her job to corporate downsizing. But when Meyer was laid off from that position, she immediately began looking at other options. Her thoughts returned to a business she had considered in the past: PIRTEK.

“I was sitting around thinking about what my next step would be,” Meyer said. “I had thought about PIRTEK before. But the time wasn't right then because I already had a job. After the layoff, I thought it was a good time to look at it.”

The only franchise of its kind in the United States, PIRTEK provides hydraulic and industrial hose replacement sales and services. There are 70 PIRTEK franchises and a fleet of mobile service vehicles throughout the United States. Globally, PIRTEK has more than 400 locations and 2,000 mobile service vehicles in 23 countries.

The service aspect is one of the main things that attracted Meyer to the franchise in the beginning.

“I believe in the products and the vision. I like that it's a service-based business,” she said. “I've always been very big on customer service.”

Meyer said she will continue serving the service and supply center's existing base — industrial, construction, rental, waste and recycling — but she also intends to pursue business with the region's precious metals mines.

“We plan to make the most of that opportunity,” she said.

PIRTEK Palo Verde is located at 3455 S. Palo Verde Road., Suite 117, Tucson, Ariz., 85713.
