NPK Construction Equipment recently announced its acquisition of Holmes Manufacturing in Garfield Heights, Ohio.

Holmes Manufacturing started in 1971 as a family-owned and operated business. Holmes is a machining company, which services many sectors of the industrial marketplace in northeast Ohio.

Much of the work is short run, and Holmes has gained a strong reputation for providing quality products and quick delivery, according to the company. Most of the work it does goes into machine tools, injection molding machines, mining and construction equipment.

Holmes has been a great partner of NPK for well over 20 years, according to NPK Construction Equipment President Dan Tyrrell.

“We have worked together well in developing processes for machining many of the parts that are shipped out of NPK every day. We feel that the high quality product produced by Holmes is a perfect fit to the high quality standards of NPK. I am confident that the joining of our teams will make NPK more competitive in the market place with an even stronger tie to our machining operations,” said Tyrrell.

Some of the products currently made for NPK by Holmes include hammer support blocks, hammer side plates, compactor frames, eccentrics, processor jaws, bushings, pins and bearing housings.

Tyrrell said that NPK worldwide has a long term goal of increasing the local manufacturing and production in each local market. In keeping with this goal, NPK Construction began assembling small hammers in Ohio over a year ago.

The acquisition of Holmes Manufacturing is another step toward manufacturing more products made and built in Ohio. With the two companies now combined, they maintain an employee roster of more than 100 employees within the state.

Founded in 1923, NPK is an international manufacturer of excavator attachments with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Japan and the Czech Republic . The company produces hydraulic hammers, vibratory plate compactors, concrete crushing processors as well as a multitude of specialty attachments.

In 1985 NPK Construction Equipment Inc. was founded in Walton Hills, Ohio with only 8 employees.

In 1989, a local fabrication facility was purchased in Wickliffe, Ohio, to undertake the manufacturing of heavy steel fabrications in the United States. For more than 20 years, the company has served the construction, demolition and related fields in North and South America through a network of thoroughly trained equipment dealers. All NPK attachments and other products including hydraulic hammers, compactors, processors and pedestal booms are designed, manufactured and supported by NPK.
