For nearly 50 years, the National Guard barracks and hangar stood watch by the Manchester airport in Manchester, NH. Plans for expanding the airport required the aging hangars to be demolished. Its concrete foundation, slab and tarmac would not go down without a fight.

The A. Davies Trucking Co., located in North Chelmsford, MA, was assigned the mission to tear up the 45,000 sq.-ft. (4,180 sq m) concrete slab and associated tarmac. The problem, though, was that the concrete was 18 in. (45.7 cm) thick and made with a 12,000 psi mix. They needed an Extreme Service attachment to tackle this tough job.

That's when A. Davies, CEO, of Alex Davies Demolition Division called National Attachments Inc. Soon after, he had exactly what he needed — a Nye digital concrete pulverizer, which he attached to his Cat 245B excavator. The integrated four-position ripper was perfect for prying and lifting massive slabs at their expansion joints. Once the slab was raised on edge the pulverizer demolished the concrete with its massive jaws.

"It [the digital concrete pulverizer] was amazing … it just busted the mix right to pieces," said Davies. "It was well-built and it really angles in on the concrete. It also eliminated an entire machine because I didn't need to use a bucket with the pulverizer. My trucking time was even cut down which is something we really understand.

"We only had 100 days to do this job, but we finished way ahead of schedule … 35 days ahead thanks to the Nye pulverizer," said Davies.

"This pulverizer was key to us completing this job on time … I really liked the product," said Davies. Will he use the Nye digital concrete pulverizer again? "We already are … we're using it on two other jobs right now.

"Buying equipment over the phone is usually risky, but the people at National Attachments are experienced professionals. They gave me what I paid for and more. I would recommend them to anyone," said Davies.
