N.Y.’s Monroe Tractor Acquires S.C. Hansen

Monroe Tractor has acquired S.C. Hansen of Horseheads, N.Y.

S.C. Hansen was founded in 1947 by Stewart Hansen. Over the course of 61 years, the company expanded out of Horseheads to Apalachin, then Hornell and finally into Albany. When Stewart Hansen retired in 1982 his son, Randell, took over as company president.

Now as Randell Hansen makes plans for his retirement days, S.C. Hansen and Monroe Tractor make plans for how to best place his company in good hands. And nothing could be more appropriate than keeping S.C. Hansen in the family by combining it with Monroe Tractor, which was founded by Henry Hansen, Stewart’s brother, in 1951.

“These are exciting times to be in the equipment business, as two of New York State’s most respected equipment dealerships … join forces,” said Janet Felosky, president of Monroe Tractor.

Monroe Tractor plans to keep all four Hansen branches, re-branding them under the Monroe name and bringing Monroe’s traditional equipment brands such as Doosan and LeeBoy to Hansen’s market. Likewise, Hansen’s usual lines, like Vibroscreen will be introduced into Monroe’s facilities. Both dealers have always offered Case, Takeuchi and NPK equipment.

In addition, the Monroe Rents program will become part of each Hansen location, significantly expanding the rental choices formerly available.

Sandy Alvarez, rental manager, noted that Monroe Rents is a major presence in all its traditional markets and Felosky expects that strength to be valuable at its new locations as well.

Felosky also was happy to point out that since her heavy equipment business is as much about people as it is about equipment, the combining of the two companies brings about an unmatched merging of talent and experience to the industry as well.

Frank Schoenacker, general manager of Monroe Tractor’s Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse branches announced that Hansen’s vice president of sales, Chuck Miller, has become the general manager of the Horseheads, Albany and Apalachin branches. Brian Hansen will continue as Monroe’s Apalachin branch manager. In addition, 26 experienced former Hansen people will become part of Monroe’s current team of approximately 125.

“We also expect to add 11 people to fill the supporting positions at the new branches,” said Felosky, who anticipates adding product support representatives at each of the former Hansen locations. The new product support people will be working with Chris Felosky, product support manager. Chris and his team will bring the well-known “MT Advantage program,” which offers customers myriad choices for essential parts at competitive prices, to the former Hansen sites.

The merging of “two family-owned and operated businesses, with a combined 118 years of industry experience, will have a positive impact for all who have equipment needs. We’re confident that the acquisition of S.C. Hansen will make us an even better company and we’re betting our customers will agree,” Felosky stated.

In addition to the four newly acquired S.C. Hansen locations, Monroe Tractor serves the construction industry with locations in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany and also has four locations serving the agricultural industry. Two of the newly acquired locations, Horeseheads and Apalachin, will cater to both the construction and agricultural industries, as they have traditionally done.
