The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) on July 11 approved school construction projects in nine school districts across the Buckeye state with a value of nearly $400 million. The commission action will mean the allocation of $187 million in state funding to be combined with $210 million in local funding. This funding was made possible through House Bill 529, the state's capital bill enacted in 2018.
"This is a significant step for these nine districts and for our state as we continually ensure that our children attend modern, innovative educational facilities that support their academic success. Congratulations to these school communities!" said OFCC Chair Kimberly Murnieks. OFCC Interim Executive Director Jon Walden added, "There is also a significant economic impact attached to today's Commission action – the construction work generated by these projects means both job opportunities for local residents and increased purchases of goods and services from local businesses."
The funding awards are contingent upon state Controlling Board approval. All nine school districts have already raised their local shares for these projects.
