No matter what part of the industry you work in, safety should always be the number-one priority.

OSHA's recently published list of most-cited safety violations for 2017 provides key areas for you and your crew to pay special attention to moving into the new year.

The top-10 list includes:

• Fall protection—general requirements, with 6,887 total violations;
• Hazard communication, with 4,652 total violations;
• Scaffolding, with 3,697 total violations;
• Respiratory protection, with 3,381 total violations;
• Lockout/tagout, with 3,131 total violations;
• Ladders, with 2,567 total violations;
• Powered industrial trucks, with 2,349 total violations;
• Machine guarding, with 2,109 total violations;
• Fall protection—training requirements, with 1,724 total violations; and
• Electrical—wiring methods, with 1,530 total violations.

While all of these violations showcase safety hazards that workers must contend with on a daily basis, a recent surge in fall protection violations is a particular cause for concern, OSHA recently told Safety + Health Magazine.
