Powerscreen Connecticut Inc. has just gotten a little bigger, and with that growth — spurred by the purchase of a competitor — the company is changing its name to Powerscreen New England.

A family business run by founder Seamus Sheelan, his wife, Bernadette, and his son, Cathal, Powerscreen Connecticut was founded in 1997 and since that time has been the authorized distributor of Powerscreen products and BL Pegson products in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The company has been recognized as the BL Pegson Dealer of the Year on several different occasions.

Last year, Powerscreen Connecticut purchased Equipment and Systems for Industry (ESI), the BL Pegson and Cedarapids dealer of Massachusetts. Powerscreen absorbed all of the aggregate equipment division of ESI and was named the new Powerscreen, BL Pegson and Cedarapids dealer for that area. In addition, Powerscreen Connecticut was awarded the Powerscreen, BL Pegson and Cedarapids contracts for New Hampshire and Maine.

The company’s new name — Powerscreen New England — reflects its increased market area.

“We are extremely excited about this announcement,” said Seamus Sheelan. “Personally, I have a long history with the Powerscreen product, going all the way back to serving as president of Powerscreen U.S.A. in the 80s and early 90s, up until my wife and I started Powerscreen Connecticut. Today, Terex Corporation owns Powerscreen, BL Pegson and Cedarapids so we are able to represent this wide diversity of products and have the advantage of dealing with only one corporation for managing our equipment and parts inventory.

“New England is one area of the country that has long had a strong Cedarapids presence thanks to the efforts of Les Bebchick and Equipment and Systems for Industry. With our acquisition of ESI we are now representing the Cedarapids line for all of New England. The Cedarapids MPS cone crusher is well respected and we greatly look forward to representing the Cedarapids product offering to New England’s aggregate producers.”

Powerscreen New England will continue to offer parts and product support for Massachusetts and northern New England from ESI’s old facilities in Hopkinton, Mass. The company also is nearing completion of a new sales, parts and service facility in Loudon, N.H.

“This acquisition has many benefits to our customers. We are a stronger and more aggressive dealership than ever before. Our sales staff, our rental fleet inventory and parts inventory are all larger than ever before.

Most importantly our fleet of service trucks now numbers five, giving us the flexibility to support our customers even in the most remote regions of our territory,” Sheelan said.
