In this era of makeovers, Scott Riggan jumped on the bandwagon — but with a twist. Riggan founded Precision Paint & Media Blasting in 2004 to makeover heavy equipment, construction vehicles, and trailers.

Located in Annville in the heart of central Pennsylvania the company is dedicated to refurbishing just about anything that his 10,000-sq.-ft. facility will accommodate. The facility, situated on more than 2 acres, has seven bays that were designed and strategically laid out to provide function, practicality and timely service. It also includes a large staging yard and loading docks.

The process of giving a fresh look to equipment begins in one of two wash bays, which utilize a 3,000 psi 9 gpm pressure washer coupled with an 880,000 BTU LP gas-fired burner for powerful cleaning. Here, each unit receives a thorough detailing before entering the media blasting room.

After extensive prep and masking, the unit is ready to undergo the most critical stage of refurbishing — media blasting. The 25- by 50- by 23-ft. room is equipped to remove the toughest of finishes and surface rust. Removing deteriorated paint provides a surface for refinishing that is recommended for each unit.

Next, a unit receives a secondary cleaning to ensure that all media has been removed before it goes to the repair and paint preparation bays. During this phase of the makeover, cosmetic repairs, sanding and masking for priming are performed.

“We host two of the largest paint booths on the East Coast,” said Riggan. The paint booths measure 20 by 48 by 23 ft. and provide the latest in cross-flow ventilation technology.

In addition, both booths are equipped with bake cycles to expedite dry times and are fitted with their own electrostatic paint system. This system provides a superior finish with less over spray and can distribute paint to the intricate areas associated with equipment refinishing.

Precision Paint & Media Blasting, with its close proximity to a welding and fabrication shop, provides customers with one-stop service for a complete makeover.
