Associated Paving Contractors Inc., of Huntingdon Valley, PA, did a lot of research before purchasing Vogele's Pro-Pav 880RTB.

"We needed a versatile paver to do parking lots, as well as road paving, such as we're currently doing for a local municipality," said Adam Reiff, president of Associated Paving Contractors.

"We looked at others," said Reiff. "The machine [the Vogele Pro-Pav 880RTB] is manufactured locally, in Chambersburg, PA, so we actually visited the plant. The help we received from the engineers and the technical support staff was amazing. They make themselves available when you need them."

Associated Paving was very impressed with the company, which is part of the Wirtgen Group. "Its support is outstanding and it is extremely interested in customer feedback," said Reiff.

After having made its decision, Associated Paving purchased the equipment from Construction Crane & Tractor (CC&T), of Folcroft, PA. The company had previously purchased a Wirtgen milling machine and a Mauldin roller from CC&T, which also serviced its Midland road widener. "I feel very comfortable with CC&T," said Reiff.

The Pro-Pav 880 RTB is a rubber-track paver with an 11-ton (9.9 t) hopper and is powered by a Cummins 152-hp (133 kW), six-cylinder engine. The paver comes equipped with a Carlson Easy IV screed that is 8 to 15 ft. (2.4 to 4.6 m) and is available with electrically heated bolt-on extensions that provide 19 ft. (5.8 m) of paving width. The screed is electrically heated and powered by a 22.3 hp (16.5-kW) generator.

One of the things that sold Reiff on the Pro-Pav 880 RTB was the machine's versatility.

"It performs excellently for new paving or on an overlay job," he said. "The rubber tracks are great for parking lots. They can maneuver around obstacles with no problem. We're also impressed with the optional berm builder," said Reiff.

He also noted that, because the electrically-heated screed can run its lights through the generator, there is no need to set up portable lights for night jobs. It also reduces labor costs.

"The forward-mounted extensions are great for parking lots, virtually eliminating the need for a second shovel person. And talk about versatility, our crew has actually cooked lunch on the screed," Reiff said.

In addition to the machines he purchased from them, Reiff has a Midland roller and a Mauldin roller serviced by CC&T.

"Their support is just great," he commented. "For instance, a while ago, we had a broken auger segment. I called CC&T at 3 p.m. on a Friday, and they had another installed by 10 a.m. the next morning."
