Progress on RDO Equipment Co.'s new store in Dayton, Minn., reached a significant milestone this fall. With conventional steel framing in place, there's now visibility to the building's size and shape.
According to John Weber, general manager of RDO's construction and parts stores in the Twin Cities metro area, this visual progress isn't the only thing that's exciting right now in Dayton.
"The structure is going up and that's quite visible," he said. "But what's not visible yet and is equally exciting is the way the team is building along with the construction. When we open our doors next year, we will have a state-of-the-art facility and a first-class team to help support our customers in the Twin Cities."
Additional building work happening now includes insulated wall panels and metal building roof, interior underground plumbing and electrical install, and the start of membrane roofing. According to BC Contracting, the project's general contractor, the exterior building enclosure is expected to be complete by early December.
Sitework also is continuing along as expected, with both the asphalt parking lot surface install and precast fence complete. Irrigation and landscaping installation are in progress, along with fine grading of the storm pond bed and banks.
Announced in January 2019, the new Dayton store is planned to be 45,000 total sq. ft., making it RDO's largest construction-focused store in Minnesota. The space is being designed to have dedicated equipment, parts and service areas for three of RDO's major manufacturing partners, Vermeer, Topcon and John Deere.
In addition to the strategic layout, the store's location, adjacent to Interstate 94 and the 610 interchange, is meant to address two key needs of RDO's Twin Cities-area customers: convenience and timeliness.
"Many of our customers work across the entire footprint of the metro area," Kelly Gress, vice president of RDO's Midwest construction region said. "The Dayton location will give them a new opportunity on the north side to get parts and service in a convenient, timely manner."
The Dayton store is scheduled to open in the summer of 2020.
