Construction Equipment Guide

O&G Industries of Torrington, Conn., recently performed paving work on a multi-million dollar construction project that improved the raceway at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn.

The track construction and paving schedule was a very ambitious one. It required contractors to do 90 days of work in 31 days to be ready for the American Le Mans Series July 11 and 12, turning the job into a race against the clock.

O&G used two pavers in echelon, with one paver running slightly behind the other so that the mats overlapped while the joint was still hot, making seamless pavement.

It used Vögele 5203-2 pavers to perform the work, one rented and one purchased from W.I. Clark Co. of Wallingford, Conn., a Wirtgen dealer. The machines were new to O&G Industries. Its operators had only recently learned the controls and the job required great precision.

“We were honored by the confidence [O&G] had in W.I. Clark and Wirtgen to trust this precise job to two Vögele 5203-2 pavers, three Hamm HD090D oscillating rollers and crews new to Vögele controls,” said Lynn C. Fisher, service assistant of W.I. Clark Co. “W.I. Clark and Wirtgen factory personnel supported the units with a significant field presence. We knew this was a challenge. The final quality product speaks to the work of the entire company.”
