Anthony “Tony” Yitchinsky recently reached a very significant milestone in his 15-year career with Ransome Cat. Yitchinsky has driven more than 1-million miles without a traffic accident or a citation on his driving record.
Yitchinsky is the driver of the nighttime parts delivery truck for the construction division of Ransome Cat. Each night, he ensures that each of Ransome’s service branches have the parts that they will need for the next day’s operation. Yitchinsky clocks in each night at midnight and will routinely drive approximately 300 miles. The key to his safe driving record, “never let your guard down.”
In honor of Yitchinsky’s achievement Ransome Cat honored him with a commemorative plaque and leather Cat racing jacket.
Yitchinsky started as a nighttime driver for Ransome in 1988. He will be getting a new truck for 2004, but does say that he will miss his current one when it is gone; he has driven more than 737,000 miles in his current truck. The vehicle is still on the original Cat engine and it has never had to be rebuilt, a testament to the care Yitchinsky places on his vehicle and his driving. Yitchinsky stressed that the key to safe driving is to “Never be too confident. Always be prepared and check your blind spots.”
In addition to keeping Ransome’s branches up and running each day, Yitchinsky is an unofficial barometer for business activity in Ransome’s territory. “When you can barely get the doors closed each night you know that the company is doing well and that all the mechanics are busy,” he said.
