Norris Sales Company hosted Rep. Brendan Boyle (D, PA-13) March 24 at its facility in Conshohocken, Pa.

The first-term congressman, who represents part of Philadelphia and Montgomery County, arrived at 10 a.m. and spent an hour touring Norris Sales's spacious new 55,000 sq.-ft. facility, meeting with employees and getting behind the controls of an excavator in the company's equipment yard.

Boyle was immediately impressed by the scope and size of Norris Sales new facility, located at 1010 Conshohocken Road, which opened in June 2015. He recalled the previous, much smaller one up the street on the corner of Conshohocken Road and Ridge Pike.

“This is significantly bigger than their old facility,” he said. “What they've done here at Norris Sales Company is pretty phenomenal and to see a company that has grown to this extent is really the fulfillment of the American Dream.”

During the facility tour, Boyle climbed into the cab of a Link-Belt 210 excavator and gave operating it his best shot, even attempting to pick up a wooden beam. The attempt left Karen Zajick, president of Norris Sales, impressed.

“It was great to see him get in a new Link-belt excavator, operate it and have a big smile. He saw how it worked and it was a unique experience. I was really happy that he was able to pick up the 4 by 4.”

Toward the end of the tour, Boyle sat down and spoke issues, including infrastructure spending and investing, healthcare costs, training and education and working together in the Congress, that affect Norris Sales as well as the industry with Karen Zajick; Don Zajick, CFO; Bill Cummings, sales manager; Frank Basile, general manager; and Ben Yates, regional manager and manager of membership services of the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED).

At the conclusion of his visit with Norris Sales, Boyle was pleased with how it had gone,

“I thought it was great,” he said. “And I just want to make sure that as a policy maker, I'm able to be as supportive as I can with smart policies that help our small businesses and also help reinvest and rebuild America. It's so important that we recognize that every dollar that we spend on infrastructure has a tremendous multiplier effect and that it benefits tons of companies and workers, in my district and every district around the country.”

Karen Zajick was grateful for the chance to meet with Rep. Boyle and talk issues as well.

“This was a really great opportunity for us to meet someone in our district who heard firsthand about the challenges we face as a company and industry. “He [Boyle] gets the big picture; he knows about infrastructure and how important that is. He understands energy prices and how that affects our market. He's somebody who wants to do things … he said he was pragmatic and that's how we are at Norris Sales. We are about common sense, we want to get things done, find a solution and always move forward.”

Zajick also welcomed the representative's positive tone throughout the meeting.

“It was really refreshing to hear what he said about working together, republicans and democrats, to get things done,” she said. “Because it seems from afar that politics is at a standstill, no one seems to want to work together and we really have to. For me, this was a great learning experience and I'm really pleased with the outcome.”
