Today, bidders often can be found live-streaming the equipment being tested in the yard. Subsequently, they’ll report back to someone at the office about how the equipment is running so their companies can make better buying decisions.

Dozens of Volvo articulated trucks were sold at the recent Ritchie Bros. auction held at its North East, Md., facility.

David Weaver, manager of Weaver Mulch of Coatesville, Pa., checks out a few conveyor systems to help grow the family business. His father, owner of Weaver Mulch, also was at the sale.

Adelson Knup, owner of Freedom Construction Inc., Philadelphia, Pa., tests out the John Deere 160C LC before placing a bid.

George Johnston, owner of Big Island Ventures, Queenstown, Md., brought his daughter, also known as his sales associate, to the auction.

Jon Fazekas, president and owner-operator of Top Notch Tree Experts in Boothwyn, Pa., is looking for some deals.

More than 3,150 bidders participated online and in person Dec. 19 at Ritchie Bros.' multi-million-dollar unreserved public equipment auction in North East, Md.

With bidders from 43 countries, approximately 84 percent of the equipment in the auction was sold to out-of-state buyers, from as far away as Belgium, Ukraine and Egypt. Online bidders purchased approximately 52 percent of the equipment sold (by dollar value).

More than 1,900 equipment items and trucks were sold in the auction, including 60-plus excavators, 60-plus compactors, more than 45 aerial work platforms, more than 40 dump trucks, 30-plus loaders, 15-plus dozers, more than 15 articulated dump trucks, 140-plus truck tractors, 125 trailers, and more.
