Roadtec Cold Planers Feature Wider Cutter Drums, Housings

Construction Equipment Guide

Roadtec cold planers have always offered a range of cutter drum widths for all four of its models. To cut wider than standard widths has required the installation of a wider drum and a wider cutter housing, a procedure which takes one full day in the shop on average. Now, Roadtec offers a bolt-on system that gives contractors the choice of adding a segment to their existing drum and cutter housing. Labor for this process is said to take less than half the time required before.

Choosing a segmented drum allows the contractor to have two different widths on hand with minimal investment. Add-on segments are from 6 to 18 in. (15 to 46 cm) in width and require no changes to drives.

Twelve-in. (30 cm) wide segments to extend a standard 7-ft. 2-in. (2.2 m) drum to 8-ft. 2-in. (2.5 m) have been among the most popular, Roadtec said.

Cuts as wide as 14 ft. (4.3 m) can be achieved with an RX-900 model outfitted with a 12-ft. 6-in. (3.8 m) main drum and an 18-in. (0.46 m) add-on drum segment.

Roadtec offers four cold planer models ranging from 325 to 950 hp (242 to 708 kW).
