The Roadtec Guardian telematics system for Roadtec e-series milling machines or cold planers and pavers is designed to diagnose service issues and provide production reports.

Guardian telematics is designed to diagnose nearly any problem with the machine's operation and production. The system automatically sends e-mails about fault codes and service requirements. The connection to and from the machine is wireless and uses a cell booster to ensure a strong signal. If an internet connection is unavailable at any given location, the on-board computer stores faults until the connection is restored and then sends the e-mail.

Through the Guardian telematics system, personnel can log into the machine from any computer and the equipment operator can view the information on the machine's display screen in the operator's compartment. The same information is available to the Roadtec service center remotely where technicians are available on a 24/7 basis to troubleshoot problems and reset fault codes. Circuits and systems are displayed as live schematics to help identify and solve issues quickly.

Guardian also reports machine performance on fuel consumption, fault codes, time to service intervals, machine speed, grade and slope settings, and where the machine is located, via GPS. The system on milling machines shows the operator in real time the exact amount of material being loaded into the truck in front of them reducing overloaded or underloaded trucks, which is designed to save money in fines or poor truck utilization. Both real time and end-of-day production reports are available.

The intent of Guardian is to preserve uptime, reduce in-person service calls, and provide real time and historic data for managing the productivity of the machine.
