SAKAI America’s 300 Series rollers consist of three small double drum steel and two combination steel/pneumatic tire roller models, all of which boast a high frequency of 4,000 vpm. This translates into higher operating speeds, while still maintaining the industry standard of 10 to 12 impacts per foot.
The higher operating speeds and high frequency of the 300 Series allow contractors to get more compaction work completed before the asphalt cools and to achieve excellent compaction quickly. This process increases productivity and along with machined drums and beveled drum edges, leaves a smooth, well compacted result.
The SW300-1, SW320-1 and SW330-1 double drum rollers have drum widths of 39, 47 and 51 in. (99, 119 and 129.5 cm) respectively and are ideally suited for smaller scale jobs like municipal roads, driveways, parking lots, sports courts and bicycle paths.
SAKAI’s TW320-1 and TW330-1 rollers combine both vibratory drum and pneumatic tires. These models feature 47 and 51 in. vibratory drums respectively on the front end for fast compaction; and the kneading action of pneumatic tires on the rear for surface finishing.
All five models feature a hydrostatic drive on both ends of the machine. These dual drive systems ensure that materials will always be pulled beneath the drums or tires to ensure compaction, while avoiding shoving and checking of the mix. Also standard on all five models, is a powerful, yet fuel-efficient 35 hp (26 kW), Kubota D1703-M-ET01 water-cooled diesel engine that fully complies with the current U.S. emission standards.
The 300 Series rollers custom designed shock isolators reduces service and maintenance time on the roller by keeping vibration moving toward the material and away from critical components and the operator, reducing fatigue. In addition to the shock isolation system, the vibrator bearing is designed with an oil bath lubrication system that minimizes maintenance, according to the manufacturer.
SAKAI’s bench seat system offers operator comfort as well as 360 degree visibility and view of both drum edges. The operator’s station is accessible from both sides of the machine and controls are conveniently located and within reach of the operator for ease of use.
SAKAI holds high safety standards and provides seatbelts and ROPS as standard features on all rollers in North America. The ROPS also are foldable for ease of transport and storage of the rollers. In addition to these safety features, SAKAI also provides multiple braking systems that ensure operator safety. A hydrostatic service brake is located on the forward- reverse lever, a wet disc, spring-applied, hydraulically-released parking brake is located on the instrument panel and there’s an emergency footbrake, which activates both brakes simultaneously.
Serviceability is quick and easy on the 300 Series rollers. A fully opening engine hood allows for easy access to the engine, radiator and hydraulic components. The hydraulic system has been designed with conveniently located pressure gauge ports for easy access.
SAKAI also has incorporated its water spray system to the 300 Series rollers. This system features long-lasting brass spray nozzles that can be easily changed by hand, a triple filtration system to prevent debris from clogging the system, emergency back-up pumps and a drainage system for clean-out and winterization. SAKAI also offers a release agent to keep asphalt from sticking to the pneumatic tires of the TW320-1 and TW330-1 models during warm-up. This release agent is stored in a separate tank and uses an independent spray bar and pump to keep it from mixing with the main water tank and spray system.
