Despite tornado warnings and impending severe weather, two governors from opposite sides of the world joined with other local and foreign dignitaries and invited guests on Feb. 28 to celebrate completion of the first phase of construction of SANY America’s North American headquarters and assembly building. Final completion is due later this year.
Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, China Hunan Province Governor Qiang Zhou, SANY Group Chairman Wengen Liang, SANY America Chairman Fugui Zhou, Consul General Yanping Gao of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, TX, and other dignitaries praised SANY America for its completion of the company’s main infrastructure at the Fayette County plant.
“We are very pleased that SANY is creating jobs and investment in Georgia, and we look forward to watching the company thrive in the years to come,” said Deal.
“The completion of SANY America’s facility signifies a new milestone in SANY’s globalization initiative. This will bring SANY’s philosophy of ’Quality Changes the World’ to the next level. The new facility will enable the company to provide the North American market and the other global customers with superior products and services,” said Liang, chairman of SANY Group Ltd.
“SANY America is the first and still remains the largest Chinese investment of its size in Georgia,” said Sam A. Williams, president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber. “SANY’s choice to build its North American headquarters and manufacturing center here demonstrates metro Atlanta’s attractiveness to international companies and Georgia’s commitment to strengthening our ties with China.”
The dignitaries all took part in unveiling the facility’s SANY America name and logo on the new building’s exterior before touring the 420,000-sq.-ft. plant. Once inside, Deal climbed inside the operator cab of a brand new SANY rough terrain crane, which is the first North American-specific product developed through a collaborative design effort between its parent company (SANY Group Ltd.) and SANY North America.
“The SRC860 is the first U.S. tailored product designed by a joint Chinese/American team at SANY. The 60 ton class is the highest volume RT market in the U.S., and the SRC860 from SANY is positioned well for performance, reliability and transportability,” said Richard Hunter, product manager — cranes at SANY America. “It will be joined by two more RTs, the SRC840 and SRC860XL.”
The capacity of the SRC860 is 60-ton (54 t) at 10 ft. (3 m) load radius. The main boom is 4-sections and a 113-ft. (34 m) maximum length. With a 53-ft. (16 m) bi-fold jib the crane maximum tip height is 172 ft. (52 m).
A fully optioned machine weighs less than 90,000 lbs. (40,823 kg). The 10-ft. 10-in. (3.3 m) width allows the crane to be moved for minimum cost. The SRC860’s powertrain features a 250 hp (186 kW) Tier III Cummins engine coupled to Dana Powershift transmission (6 speed forward and reverse) and Axletech axles. The standard tires are Bridgestone radials (29.5R25).
Once completed, the Peachtree City facility will handle assembly of five types of construction machinery including the rough terrain (RT) cranes, crawler cranes, excavators, motorgraders and concrete pump trucks.
In addition to manufacturing, the facility also will house sales, engineering, testing, service, and parts distribution plus serve as SANY America’s corporate headquarters.
Plans for assembly and production are scheduled to begin later this year.
Phase One construction of the facility began in June 2010, and officials estimate a total investment to-date of $60 million. SANY America is the first U.S. branch of parent company SANY Group Co. Ltd., and currently employs 108 people and expects to double its staff by the end of 2012.
Headquartered in Hunan Province, China, SANY Group Co. Ltd., is the largest concrete-pumping equipment company in China.
