The Schaeff SKL line of wheel loaders now numbers five with the introduction of the SKL 873.

Its operating weight is 10,659 kilograms (23,500 lbs.) with a bucket capacity of up to 3.1 cubic meters (4 cu. yds.) and is powered by a 104-kilowatt (140 hp) Perkins six-cylinder, turbo-charged engine. All of Schaeff’s loaders continue to feature parallelogram linkage which keeps the bucket level with the ground, even at maximum height, and hydrostatic drive which automatically adjusts draw bar pull and speed. Because of the hydrostatic drive, Schaeff was able to place the engine crossways at the rear of the machine, which eliminates the need for counter-weight and improves positioning clearance.

In addition, this placement provides open access to service areas. Four-wheel drive via the drive shaft to the front axle along with infinitely variable speed controls forward and reverse directions, making these loaders easy to control.

Access to diesel tank, battery, hydraulic oil filter and diesel oil pre-filter are now available through side covers, with a separate engine access cover. More room in the cab has been added, making space for tool and grease gun storage and a lunch box. There also is an air intake with filter for cab ventilation when working in dusty environments. The operator can choose between fresh or recirculated air. Heat is standard. The steering column is tilting and height adjustable to fit any sized operator.

A variety of attachments are available for these machines which makes them well-suited for light construction, municipal, landscape and agricultural industries. The “quick-attach” feature allows the operator to change attachments hydraulically without leaving the cab. And “power beyond hydraulics” enable quick hook-up for hydraulically powered attachments. Another characteristic is a double-ended bucket positioning cylinder which allows equal speed in dumping and retracting.
