Past the piles of new scrap, the latest addition to the equipment fleet of Scholz Recycling GmbH is making its way through the yard's storage areas, on its way to the day's first work site.

The Sennebogen green 835 M E Series material handler will start its day by unloading trucks and sorting the material. Later, it will be called upon to load heaps of scrap into rail gondolas.

Site Manager Ralf Gandert is pleased with how the 835 fits into his operation.

"Despite its size, the 835 is very stable and maneuverable," he said. "We have one machine to do both precision handling and rough loading."

Flexibility, being purpose-built was the key feature that led Scholz to acquire the machine.

"We chose the 835 M to streamline our material flow right through to outbound shipping. We also attach great deal of importance to having a reliable service partner, and we have found that in our Sennebogen dealer."

Scholz Recycling's Dresden location is a 100,000 sq. ft. site, which opened in 2000. Gandert became familiar with Sennebogen equipment and service through his experience with the facility's 880 EQ balance crane – a giant 750,000 lb. (340,200 kg) machine that can lift and swing more than 20 tons in a single load.

"The size and color of that 880 EQ attracts a lot of attention for us," said Gandert, "but it's more important to us that it works flawlessly and in the way we want it to, every day, and it does that perfectly."

At just over 100,000 lb. (46,000 kg), the 835 M is dwarfed by the 880, but takes on many different roles. Its elevating Maxcab reinforces it flexibly allowing operators to work safely and in a controlled manner with different material and equipment at different heights. Being able to hydraulically lift the Maxcab from 10 to 18 ft. (3.0 to 5.5 m), allows the operator to adapt easily for loading of both trucks and rail cars. Sennebogen's Green Efficiency drive system responds automatically to deliver ample power when needed, or provides energy-saving efficiency under less-demanding conditions. With a load capacity of 5.4 tons and a reach of 50 ft. (15.2 m) the nimble 835 has become an integral part of the Scholz success at its Dresden site.
