KomoNews is reporting that construction crews working on digging the waterfront tunnel have a new challenge on their hands after a sinkhole developed near the digging site.

Crews had just resumed mining under the Seattle waterfront Tuesday evening when about two hours later, a sinkhole developed 35 feet north of the access pit.

Officials say the hole was about 35 feet long, 20 feet wide and 15 feet deep. The hole is about 100 feet south of where "Bertha" sits, and is in ground that was mined last week.

The cause of the sinkhole is still under investigation and construction crews are analyzing the portion of the tunnel that has been excavated since mining resumed.
