For the second year in a row, the Philadelphia-metro office of Skanska USA Building Inc. paddled its way to earn silver medals at the Philadelphia International Dragon Boat Festival.

The “Skanska Hammerheads” defeated 80 percent of the competition overall and earned silver medals in the final race for their division.

Proceeds generated from this festival support the Fox Chase Cancer Center, one of the nation’s first comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute in 1974. Fox Chase conducts basic and clinical research, programs of prevention, detection and treatment of cancer and community outreach.

“Skanska’s ongoing commitment to supporting its local communities remains undeterred,” said Ed Szwarc, area general manager for Skanska’s Philadelphia-metro office, which was recognized this year by the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of the leading “Corporate Charitable Contributors” in the Greater Philadelphia region.

“Less than one month after hosting Skanska’s first Charity Challenge Golf Outing, which generated more than $15,000 in proceeds and represented 28 local charities, our team of dedicated men and women returned to the Schuylkill River for another exciting race in the fight to eradicate cancer.”
