Snorkel Previews Big Scissor, Booms

Snorkel recently previewed a rough terrain scissor lift with a 60 ft. (18 m) platform height. While other 60 ft. scissor lifts are available from niche manufacturers, this is the first 60 ft. scissor lift priced for the volume market — all other major manufacturers stop at 52 ft. (15.8 m).

Preliminary specifications for the S6090RT are a lift capacity of 1,252 lbs. (568 kg); width of 90 in. (228 cm); and a platform height of 60 ft. With the standard dual deck extensions fully extended, it provides a work area almost 24 ft. (7.3 m) long.

Powered by a Kubota 44 hp (32.8 kW) water-cooled diesel engine, the S6090RT is the largest in a new family of four big deck, rough terrain construction scissors, which also includes lifts with platform heights of 32, 43 and 52 ft. (9.7, 13 and 15.8 m). The machines feature auto-leveling hydraulic outriggers and twin deck extensions; however all units in the new SRT range can be specified without stabilizers, if required.

Platform capacities of up to 2,000 lbs. (900 kg) are available on lower height units and all retain the platform size of 72 by 287 in. (183 by 729 cm) when extended. Rough terrain capability is ensured by four-wheel drive, high-grip tires and standard oscillating axles, with a 14 in. (35.5 cm) ground clearance. All-steel construction and Snorkel’s “keep-it-simple” design philosophy make the machines ideal for demanding construction rental applications, according to the manufacturer.

Snorkel expects that the SRT family will be in production by the third quarter of 2011.

Snorkel continued the development of its mid-sized boom range with the launch of the latest additions to the “Polaris” family.

Preliminary specifications for the all-new A62JRT articulated rough terrain boom lift are a platform height of 62 ft. (21 m working height), outreach of 35 ft. 1 in. (10.7 m) and “up and over” clearance height of 30 ft. (9 m). Additional versatility is provided by the 6 ft. 2 in. (1.9 m), 136 degree jib and Snorkel’s spacious 8 ft. (2.4 m) wide, three-way entry platform with 500 lbs. (227 kg) capacity.

The A62JRT replaces the Snorkel AB60, offering significantly improved drive and lift performance (particularly “up-and-over” clearance) and substantially reduced tail swing, while retaining simplicity and ease of maintenance/repair, according to the manufacturer.

The A62JRT is the first articulated boom on Snorkel’s new common “Polaris” chassis, introduced in 2010 on the T46JRT telescopic boom.

Also utilizing the “Polaris” chassis, the T66JRT telescopic boom provides a platform height of up to 66 ft. (22 m working height), with additional versatility provided by the 6 ft. (1.8 m) jib. It shares the same platform cage and lift capacity as the T46JRT and A62JRT. The new T66JRT and its sibling, the T60JRT, without a jib, replace the Snorkel TB60 and TB65.
