Stafford has broadened its reach in Virginia with the acquisition of Scott-Gallaher Inc., which became effective Oct. 31.

Stafford now has 11 locations throughout the Southeast.

Scott-Gallaher Inc. had been in business for 22 years, representing product lines across Southern Virginia.

New product lines are now added to Stafford’s offering including Kobelco cranes, New Holland construction equipment, Terex construction equipment, Terex articulated and rigid frame trucks, Broderson cranes, Atlas Copco attachments, Allied hammers, Genesis shears and a variety of other lines that were represented by the former Scott-Gallaher organization.

Scott-Gallaher had been previously recognized as the No. 1 Atlas Copco and Allied Construction Products distributor in North America.

Stafford President and CEO John D. Wall said Stafford will retain all of the Scott-Gallaher employees, as well as its management structure. The Roanoke location will fall under the ultimate responsibility of Mike Davis, vice president and general manager of the Carolinas and Virginia.

Stafford said the acquisition of Scott-Gallaher, which has been discussed for the past several months, was beneficial to Stafford due to its strategic location, quality of its staff and it provided expansion for Stafford into the quarry and mining related industries.

“It isn’t a secret why Scott-Gallaher has increased its sales growth during the past several years — the organization has always taken a keen interest in taking care of the customer. Stafford certainly identifies with this philosophy, as well,” Wall said.

Ron Scott Sr., CEO of the former Scott-Gallaher organization, will remain with Stafford as a senior vice president.

“We’re very excited about becoming a part of Stafford’s team,” Scott said. “I’ve been watching Stafford’s activities across the region and know that they are very serious about providing quality machines and backing them up with a strong parts and service commitment. We’re also looking forward to increasing the machine and parts inventory levels that we have in Roanoke for our customers.”

Ron Scott Jr. also will remain with Stafford as vice president of operations of the Roanoke location.

“With the addition of our new Roanoke location, we’re now able to provide even better parts availability and service to customers in the Southern part of Virginia, which is a very important market for us,” Davis said.
