Construction recently topped off at the Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island in New York. Concepts for the $70 million project, which was ultimately designed by FXFOWLE and ESI Design, were released in fall 2016, 6sqft reported.

At the topping off event, Stephen Briganti, president of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, and Diane Von Furstenberg, who has been instrumental in raising funds for the project, both signed their names on a beam with construction crews and the design teams before it was raised to the top of the building.

When the 26,000-sq.-ft.museum opens in 2019, it will contain a theater, gallery, the Statue of Liberty's original torch and iconic views of the statue itself. Construction of the facility will be made up of glass, granite and concrete, which are all materials inspired by the museum's location by the water, 6sqft reported. In addition, the museum will have a green roof with hardscaping and meadow grass to blend in with the neighboring park.
