Stone Equipment Co. Inc., based in Montgomery, Ala., recently became an authorized distributor for the full line of Hyundai Construction Equipment in the state of Alabama.

Stone Equipment primarily will serve North and West-Central Alabama, as well as Hyundai parts needs for South Alabama customers.

“We needed a supplier to work with us to help grow our market and Hyundai looked to be the manufacturer that truly wants to see us succeed,” said Doug Stone, owner of Stone Equipment Co. “When it all began, Hyundai was looking for a dealer that was established and interested in growing their business and had a good plan. Hyundai wants to do it their way and I like that. It's not just about machine price; they're looking for a dealer that's going to be aggressive, competitive, offer quality product support and do things the right way, rather than the cheap way.”

Hyundai offered Stone Equipment all the tools for success, according to Stone.

“They provide a warranty, great finance programs, and simply all the things you need to be successful — right out of the gate,” he said. “Not everyone offers this complete plan for the dealer. After all, they're growing too. We were just looking for someone who could offer us multiple products, under one hat, that are the same brand.”

Stone added that Hyundai's overall support and assurance were what led him to go with the manufacturer.

“We went out and visited with other Hyundai dealers, we spent a lot of time thinking on this, and we're certainly not out to 'upset the apple cart' of machine distribution,” he said. “We're just here looking to sell a quality product and provide great service. It's been a while since Hyundai has had a distributor in Montgomery [Ala.] and we've already sold a Hyundai machine or two and have pending deals, so it seems the timing was right for this line, and there's a place for me in the market. We're an aggregate- and recycling-based business and we'll be talking with our existing road builder and quarry friends about these machines and do our best to market these machines to them; then, we'll blend in with the other distributors and expand our reach a bit to others who are looking for another distributor to work with, but plan to kind of stay in our lane.”

The Hyundai line presents new opportunities and puts Stone Equipment in front of more people. “For us, it's just a nice addition to what we're already selling,” Stone said. “We're excited to get started.”

Already other companies have been reaching out to Stone Equipment about lines that would be complementary to the new Hyundai products, but Stone said he wants to focus on the Hyundai before adding anything else that might take the focus off of them. “But who knows, we might delve into other products in the future,” he added.

Stone Equipment also is a KPI-JCI, BTI and Anaconda dealer, as well as, a Doppstadt dealer in the state of Georgia and Tennessee. The company recently trained its sales and service staff on the Hyundai product line and also has recently hired two new sales staffers to support the new line.
