High school students from Arizona and Nebraska, a graduate student from Texas Southern University in Houston and a post-graduate student at Regis University in Boston are the 2018 winners of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association's (ARTBA) 8th Annual "Student Transportation Video Contest." They will each receive a $500 cash prize.
The association received 21 submissions from students across the country, representing 14 states, in two categories: general transportation and safety. Sponsored by ARTBA's Research and Education (RED) Division, the contest aims to raise awareness about infrastructure issues by challenging students to develop a brief video exploring various topics relating to America's transportation network.
Submission topics included road safety, funding public transportation, bridge maintenance and automated vehicles.
The competition was advertised on college scholarship websites, posted on online video contest sites, shared with Summer Transportation Institutes, film and engineering programs, debate leagues and Girl Scout troops across America, as well as Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) and ARTBA RED members. It was also shared on ARTBA's social media accounts. ARTBA members reviewed the submissions and selected the winners.
