Harter Equipment held its 50th Anniversary Open House June 3 in Millstone, N.J.

The equipment dealer, founded by the late Seth Harter in 1967, is today led by his daughter, Sue Harter, and she was pleased with the great turnout for the event. After an early morning heavy rain that threatened to put a damper on the celebration, the weather cleared and many customers, friends and their families, as well as vendors, responded by coming out for an enjoyable Saturday afternoon.

“Finally, the sun came out, and so did our customers,” Sue Harter, president of Harter Equipment, happily said.

During the noon to 4 p.m. event, both adults and children had a wide array of activities to keep themselves busy and entertained with, including an equipment rodeo, face painting, Gator cars, little rubber duck catching and a ring toss for which every child came out a happy winner with a toy Kubota skid steer.

The equipment rodeo, consisting of three events using a Kobelco excavator, a John Deere backhoe and a Kubota skid steer, provided guests with an opportunity to showcase their operating prowess. Winners of the competition were:

• First place: Dan Moran, Mycon, Jamesburg, N.J.

• Second place: Nick Coston, B G Coston & Sons LLC, Franklin, N.J.

• Third place: Miguel Seixeiro, S&G Paving, Jamesburg, N.J.

The winner of Kids Rodeo (ages 8-17) was Michael Giejda (Giejda Landscape, Farmingdale, N.J.)

Many gifts and prizes were awarded throughout the day, and Paul DiDonato of Scheideler Excavating, Princeton Junction, N.J., was the big winner, taking home the raffle grand prize — a 55-inch Samsung curved TV.

Vendors in attendance included John Deere, Kubota, Kobelco, KCM, Dynapac, Atlas Copco, Bell Trucks, Hyundai, FRD Furukawa, Rayco, Woods, Diamond Mowers, Signature Systems Group (a road mat manufacturer) and more.

Guests enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch consisting of pulled pork, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, cole slaw and more; an ice cream truck also was on hand to satisfy sweet tooths.

“We loved having this event to honor another decade of service to the construction industry and I thank all of our customers and vendors for taking the time on a Saturday to come out and help us celebrate,” Harter said. “These partnerships are truly the foundation of our success, as are our employees, who worked especially hard in making it all come together. Thank you all for a great 50th anniversary celebration!”
