The new 4050TA, the latest addition to Talbert Manufacturing’s traveling axle series, is ideal for haulers who need the flexibility of a California-legal trailer with a lower deck height to clear bridges and tunnels when transporting taller equipment.

The new trailer features a 36-in. (91 cm) deck height and a California-legal trailer length. Along with providing additional clearance, the lower deck height equates to extra load opportunities.

Talbert displayed its new 4050TA during the American Towman Exposition in Baltimore, Md., Nov. 21 to 23, 2014.

“After receiving feedback at the Tow Show last year, we decided to give our customers just what they were asking for — the 4050TA,” said Jerry Rothwell, director of business development at Talbert. “They talked and we listened, and we made the changes they wanted to see.”

Talbert increased the 4050TA capacity from 70,000 to 80,000 lbs. (31,751 to 36,287 kg) evenly distributed or 50,000 lbs. (22,680 kg) in 10 ft. (3 m) and reduced the lower deck height to 36 in. (91.4 cm). The 4050TA also features a 7-degree load angle and an updated e-chain for the air and electrical lines. The new e-chain is metal rather than plastic for greater durability, especially in colder climates.

Talbert also has increased the number of keyholes across the rear of the trailer to provide additional flexibility when drivers tie items down. In addition, the 4050TA features Talbert’s signature piggy-back cylinder, now with a larger diameter, and an improved, lockable toolbox that includes a weather resistant door seal, upgraded hardware and chain rack. The toolbox is located in the gooseneck along the curbside.

Talbert designed the 50-ft. (15 m) trailer for Hale Trailer, a sales, rental and leasing dealer for heavy-duty transportation trailers in Voorhees, N.J. Hale wanted a trailer that would comply with the 40-ft. (12 m) length laws in California. The state’s kingpin regulations restrict the distance from the kingpin to the rear axle to 40 ft. or less. Talbert pushed the deck length to the limit, designing a 50-ft. traveling axle trailer that complies with kingpin laws in all states.

Talbert’s standard equipment for the TA Series includes a 15,000-lb. (6,804 kg) planetary winch that operates with a two-function wireless remote. It assists in moving equipment on and off of the trailer by making it possible for one person to load a piece of equipment without leaving the vehicle. In addition to the optional 20,000-lb. (9,072 kg) winch, this Tow Show unit also includes the optional six-function remote to operate the movement of the axles, winch and deck while loading. Additional optional equipment includes a 48-in. (122 cm) aluminum/steel bulkhead with strobe and work lights, a centralized lubrication system and a right weigh load scale.

All Talbert traveling axle trailers come standard with double keyhole tie-down slots on the top of the outside beams. Additionally, standard models include double keyhole tie-downs that are recessed down the center of the trailer’s main deck with a metal basket below that protects the main cylinder from excess chain when tying down loads.
