Representatives from Terex’s Cranes Division and IHI Construction Machinery Limited gathered to celebrate the production of the 500th crane delivered to Terex Cranes Dec. 3.

Attendees representing Terex Cranes were Steve Filipov, president, Terex Cranes; Doug Friesen, vice president and general manager North America; Scott Smith, director of sales; and Jim Strobush, sales support manager.

The celebration was held at the Palace Hotel in Tokyo and included the breaking of the ceremonial Sake Barrel, presentation of commemorative photos and plaques from IHI and speeches from representatives of both organizations.

“Having shipped 500 Terex/IHI units is a great accomplishment to both teams,” Filipov said. “IHI delivers a high quality product which Terex is proud to be selling under the HC line. Achieving this milestone is also proof that our project team in Wilmington has helped design a product that meets our customer’s requirements from the start. Our new goal is to deliver the 1,000th unit in 2010.”

Discussions between Terex and IHI began in 1998 regarding the development of a series of crawler cranes that could be marketed by Terex Cranes utilizing the well received American boom. This partnership led to the development of the prototype HC 80 with a luffer, which was displayed at ConExpo 1999. Additions to the product line included the HC 110 in 2000, HC 50, HC 60 and HC 275 in 2001 and in late 2005 the HC 165.

The most recent addition to the American HC series of cranes from Terex is the American HC 230. The American HC 230 was showcased at the Terex Cranes Open House held in August 2007 and will be on display in the Terex booth at ConExpo in March 2008.

IHI Construction Machinery Limited was founded in 1952 and is located in Yokohama, Japan. The company has approximately 300 employees. Products manufactured and sold by IHI include hydraulic excavators, crawler cranes, concrete batching plants, concrete pumps and other construction machinery.
