Billed as the North American Open Days, Terex Finlay held a two-day event July 17 and 18 highlighting the company’s crushing and screening equipment in Baltimore, Md. The overriding theme of the event was “New and Improved,” with many new machines put to work alongside existing models featuring new and innovative product enhancements.

The product demonstrations over the two days where held in a quarry and recycling yard. The quarry demonstration was hosted at Savage Stone LLC, Jessup, Md., and the recycling demonstration was held at TopSoil ETC LLC, Pasadena, Md.

Day one kicked off with a conference for U.S. and Canadian dealers that included a Terex Finlay business overview, a presentation on Terex financial services and a discussion on the company’s product range and new product developments presented by Terex Finlay’s lead engineers.

Onsite demonstration events highlighting new models for both quarrying and recycling applications, were held on both July 17 and July 18. Both the aggregate layout demonstration and the recycling layout demonstration were well attended by both dealers and their customers. With a strong emphasis on providing individualized attention to every attendee, a full contingent of Terex Finlay product representatives and engineers were on hand to discuss product design and address specific application related inquiries.

Day one’s demonstration was held at the Savage Stone’s state-of-the-art granite rock quarry in Jessup, Md. The aggregate plant layout at the site included a Terex Finlay J-1175 jaw crusher, C-1550 cone crusher and the new Terex Finlay 3 deck supertrak 684. Also in operation were a Terex Finlay 883+ featuring a 16 by 5 ft. (4.9 by 1.5 m) deck, making it the biggest in its class, and the new 893 tracked mobile heavy duty screener.

Day two’s recycling demonstration featured the new Terex Finlay I-100RS impact crusher direct drive 34 by 34 in. (86 by 86 cm) horizontal impact crusher with variable speed, making short work of concrete materials, and the new 883 Spaleck 3D combi flip-flow screen. Combining Terex Finlay’s screen technology expertise with a high performance screenbox designed and built by the German company, Spaleck, the 883 Spaleck delivers virtually blockage-free screening.

New models previewed at the event included:

• 883+ heavy duty screen

• 883+ Spaleck heavy duty screen

• 893 heavy duty screener

• C-1550 cone crusher

• I-100RS impact crusher

Other models displayed at the event included: J-1175 jaw crusher, 684 3-deck inclined screen, J-1170 jaw crusher and C-1540 cone crusher with new side conveyor configuration.

“This was our first open day for a number of years in North America and we’re delighted not just with the full turn out from our dealer network, but also the high number and quality of end users who also attended over the course of the two days,” said Keith McCann, sales and marketing director of Terex Finlay North America. “Our new product development process is one of the most aggressive in our industry and this was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate so many new machines, their capabilities, robustness, flexibility and ease of use in both quarrying/mining and recycling applications to our dealers and customers. The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible with the support of both Savage Stone and TopSoil ETC who really supported us and without them these events just wouldn’t have been possible.”

Savage Stone is operated by Laurel Sand & Gravel, which was started by Kingdon Gould & family in 1982. Although both original sand plants were shutdown in the mid 1990s after depleting all reserves, the family-owned business now includes, in addition to this ’hard rock’ quarry, sox limestone quarries and one sandstone quarry. In addition to the crushing plants, the family also owns and operates four concrete plants, one asphalt plant, and one concrete block plant at sites located in Maryland and West Virginia. . The former 2000 plus acres, which were reclaimed after completing the sand & gravel mining in Laurel are currently being developed by the family.
