Construction Equipment Guide

The new Terex Fuchs E Series material handlers feature BlueEVOLUTION technology, offering the latest advancements in machine design. With roll out beginning in 2012, this latest generation of handlers boasts new engines that are cleaner and quieter than ever before, according to the manufacturer.

“Beyond being better for the environment, our purpose-built handlers are more efficient, more operator friendly and include enhanced diagnostics for improved machine sustainability,” said Steve Brezinski, product manager, material handlers, Terex Construction.

The Terex Fuchs E Series material handlers include high-performance turbocharged diesel engines with improved fuel efficiency. Meeting Tier IVi (Stage III B) emission standards, these new engines feature an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system, diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF). Regeneration for particulate filter cleaning occurs automatically, without impacting machine performance. The regeneration process can be temporarily interrupted, if necessary, by pressing an indicator button located on the control panel.

The engine in these BlueEVOLUTION machines works in harmony with the handlers’ load-sensing hydraulic system, which offers the power required on demand while reducing fuel consumption. A new main hydraulic pump provides increased oil flow over previous designs to improve machine responsiveness and performance. Large, separate engine and hydraulic system coolers are protected by vented panels and are designed to help maintain optimal operating temperatures.

BlueEVOLUTION enhancements inside the cab improve operator comfort and efficiency. A larger, higher resolution, higher contrast wide video graphics array (WVGA) color display features an anti-glare shield that offers easy viewing of machine functions, even in bright sunlight. Intuitive controls make for a short learning curve for operators, and the ergonomic multifunction button delivers effortless fingertip navigation through the display screens. Engine start/stop is now push-button controlled to properly manage engine shutdown while under critical load conditions or during DPF regeneration.

Images from the machine’s rear-view camera, now standard on Terex Fuchs E Series handlers, are visible on the WVGA screen. Diagnostic and operational mode selections for the magnet and generator are integrated into the control panel display to improve operating efficiency.

BlueEVOLUTION advancements provide more information to the technician for ease of machine adjustments and service. Additional CAN Bus connections on the E Series handlers expand diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities. Featuring a large surface area, the engine and hydraulic coolers are easily accessible to simplify servicing. A stow-away ladder offers quick and convenient access to the centrally located service platform, where maintenance items such as filters and the central lubrication system are located for easy access.

While BlueEVOLUTION handlers represent the latest steps forward in machine design, they retain many of the same features from previous designs. Machines are purpose-built with a durable double-row slewing ring, which disperses forces over two rows of bearings to improve component service life and durability. Inverted hydraulic boom cylinder mounting protects the cylinders during truck and rail car loading/unloading and reduces exposure to debris and moisture to improve reliability. Rigid hydraulic pipes precisely routed on the boom, stick and undercarriage protect the lines and improve durability. A hydraulically height-adjustable cab improves operator visibility of the task at hand and reduces the time it takes for loading and unloading material.
